Car shipping by RoRo from Dubai
With RoRo (roll-on/roll-off), your car is driven onto a specialised vehicle carrier and secured on an enclosed deck. No crane or container is needed. That makes RoRo the most economical way to ship a running car, and a common choice for Africa, the Middle East and Europe.

Car shipping via container from Dubai
Your car is loaded into a 20ft or 40ft container, then lashed, braced and sealed. It stays protected from weather, salt air and handling until the container is opened at the destination. Container shipping is the best choice for luxury, classic and non-running cars.
Dedicated or shared container
- Dedicated container: your car has the container to itself. You can add household goods or spare parts if they are declared.
- Shared (consolidated) container: your car shares a 40ft container with other cars going to the same port. Depending on car size, up to six vehicles fit in one 40ft container, so each owner pays less.
Non-running cars: they must still roll and steer so they can be loaded into the container safely.

Car shipping by air freight from Dubai
Air freight is the fastest way to move a car internationally. It arrives in days rather than weeks. The car is prepared, loaded onto a cargo aircraft and tracked until it lands. It costs the most, so it is usually chosen for high-value cars or when time matters.

How much does car shipping from Dubai cost?
Every quote depends on your car and route. These factors make the biggest difference:
- Destination and route: distance, direct or transshipment service, and port fees
- Method: RoRo is usually cheapest, then a shared container, then a dedicated container, then air freight
- Vehicle size and weight: RoRo is priced by volume, so a large SUV costs more than a sedan
- Services in the UAE: pickup, storage and export paperwork
- Season and shipping-line surcharges
- Insurance, if you choose to add it
Typical market ranges (sedan, freight only)
| Destination | Typical range |
|---|---|
| GCC by road | From about AED 1,800 |
| Europe | About AED 10,000–15,000 |
| North America | From about USD 2,750 (RoRo) |
| Africa | On request |
These are general market ranges from published 2025–26 sources, not MegaSpeed prices. They exclude import duties, taxes and destination charges, which the destination country sets. Contact us for a quote for your car.

Transit time also depends on the shipping line you choose: a direct sailing is faster than a service that transships through a hub port. At the moment, some cargo from the UAE is also being routed through ports in Saudi Arabia or Oman, which can add days. We confirm the current schedule with your quote.

How to export a car from Dubai: the RTA export certificate
Every car leaving the UAE needs an RTA vehicle export certificate and export plates. The certificate cancels the UAE registration and clears the car for export. We can arrange it for you.
- Clear the car. Pay any traffic fines and Salik. If the car is financed, get a bank clearance (no-liability) letter.
- Apply for the certificate through the RTA website, the Dubai Drive app, an RTA Customer Happiness Centre or a service centre such as Tasjeel. An inspection may be needed if the registration has expired.
- Hand in your UAE plates. You receive temporary blue export plates.
- Pay the fees. The export certificate is about AED 100, export plates about AED 70, plus a AED 20 innovation fee. Short-term export insurance is also required.
Fees are the published RTA fees at the time of writing and may change. Check rta.ae for the latest.

Car shipping from Dubai: frequently asked questions
What is the cheapest way to ship a car from Dubai?
RoRo is usually the cheapest option for a running car. A shared container, where several cars split the cost of one 40ft container, is close in price and gives more protection.
How long does car shipping from Dubai take?
It depends on the destination, the shipping method and the shipping line you choose. A direct sailing is faster than one that transships through a hub port. Current routing of some UAE cargo through ports in Saudi Arabia or Oman can also change the number of days. Air freight is the fastest option. We confirm the schedule for your route with your quote.
How much does it cost to ship a car from Dubai?
The price depends on the destination, the method, the size of the vehicle and the services you need. Import duties and taxes are set by the destination country and are not part of the shipping price. Send us your car details for a free quote.
Do I need an RTA export certificate?
Yes. Every car leaving the UAE needs an RTA export certificate and export plates. We can arrange them for you.
Can I ship a car that is still under a bank loan?
You need a bank clearance (no-liability) letter first. The RTA does not issue an export certificate for a financed car without it.
Can I put personal items in my car?
In a container, yes, as long as they are declared. Most RoRo lines restrict personal items, so ask us about your route.
Do you deliver to my door abroad?
Most shipments are port-to-port. Door delivery is available for selected destinations. Tell us where the car is going and we will confirm what is possible.
Can you ship a non-running car?
Yes, in a container. The car must be able to roll and steer so it can be loaded safely.
Is insurance available?
Yes. Transit insurance is available for your vehicle, and we recommend it.
