Shipping cars via containers is safe, as the vehicle gets tied inside the container using unique belts and covers around all wheels. There’s also additional space for the sender that could be used to send other items such as accessories.
When the vehicle gets loaded and tied from the inside, the steel doors of the container get locked with a lead seal with a unique number, which can only then be opened by port police, customs officers or the agent who empties the container. The cost of shipping vehicles in containers may seem high sometimes, but this is not always the case. If the car is shipped through the shipping service in standard containers, a 40-foot container can accommodate two to four cars depending on the size and the kinds of vehicles to be sent.
Regarding shipping large vehicles like trucks or heavy machinery, freight service via RoRo would be cheaper than it would cost if shipped through open containers. The cost is calculated in cubic metres for RoRo, while containers have a fixed price regardless of their cargo. It is advised to ship expensive cars via containers because of the added safety and security provided and the short shipping period compared to freight via RoRo. On the day you are due to ship, you can either drive the car to the port or request to receive it from the customer door, to get transported using a unique roof recovery to the port.
On arrival at the port, the car gets transported to the container yard to be attached and fastened safely inside the container. It is then closed and loaded onto a vessel using a crane. When the ship arrives at its destination, the customer gets notified of the arrival by the shipping line so he can complete the receipt and customs clearance and clear the port and customs fees at the destination.
